Season 2 Episode 10 • Interview • Creating your brand before taking over the family business, with Jade Genin

Just like his father, Jade Genin is a chocolatier — and a business owner.

Of Jacques To Jade, there are only a few letters… A self-taught man, he taught her the gourmet alphabet and wanted to offer her, and I quote, «all that was most beautiful, most sincere, most generous»

This recognition of beauty, this sincerity, this generosity, one feels them completely in Jade.

A student excelling in artistic skating sports, then a business lawyer, she hadn't planned her career change into chocolate – even if she was destined for it.

In this episode, we talked about mindset, rigour, communication, and craftsmanship.

And of course, Jade tells how, overnight, she dropped everything to launch her business.

And especially why! Because the future takeover of the Jacques Genin brand conditioned the creation of the Jade Genin brand.

An interview that, I hope, will whet your appetite! 🍫

Granddaughter of the painter François Bret, who founded the’Luminy School of Fine Arts and Architecture in Marseille,

And daughter of Marie-Christine and Roger Pailhas, famous for the eponymous gallery in Marseille and also founder of Art dealers, which he liked to describe as «the smallest art fair in the world»,

And then lockdown called her back to her home city, Marseille, where she created in 2021 Inanimate Objects, her flat-gallery.

Stylist – curator – gallery owner, Julie is renowned for her discerning eye, her flair and a certain radicalism.

It was the first time I'd met her, and I couldn't leave!

Together, we naturally talked about her journey, and how she managed to find her place within such a family; ;

And, of course, the design and organisation of its exhibitions, whether held on-site or off-site; ;

From its business model; ;

And how and why it differs from a traditional gallery.

With the desire to showcase emerging or established artists, Julie Pailhas has created, in her own home, a unique space that reflects her personality and brings people together.
